What is a diffuser and how to choose the right one
A diffuser is an appliance that, with the help of ultrasound, disperses fine particles into the air. Water is poured into it in combination with drops of essential oils. I am a fan of models with water, as I believe that they are the easiest to clean and are suitable for changing the oils you use without a trace of smell lingering from the previous ones.
Why get a diffuser
The use of a diffuser is one of the most effective methods of getting the positive benefits for the body and nervous system from essential oils. When inhaled, 30 – 70% of the essential oil is absorbed by the lungs. This is about 10 times more in terms of the percentage that would be taken up when applied, diluted in a carrier oil on the skin. Essential oils from different plants are not only pleasing aromas. They contain substances with proven healing effects. LINK article essential oils
How to choose a diffuser and its features
To choose a diffuser, first make up your mind whether you only need dispersal of essential oils, or also increased humidity in the air. If you need both, then focus on models with a capacity of 500 ml and higher. It is possible to use the appliance without oils – only as a humidifier. All other diffusers with smaller tanks do a great job of dispersing essential oils, but would not raise the humidity in the air.
If this is the first time you plan to buy such an appliance, choose the simplest possible model. You don’t need 10 functions, remote control, 15 different lights or other whistles and bells The only important feature is that the diffuser can turn on and off periodically. This is related to the recommendations of Robert Tisserand, who is the doyen of aromatherapy in Europe and worldwide. The best positive impact can be achieved with periodic diffusion. It is much more beneficial as well as safer than continuous inhalation. Tisserand recommends that the diffuser is on for 30–60 minutes, then off for 30–60 minutes. He refers to this mode of operation of the device as the concept of a therapeutic window.
Let the diffuser be beautiful
Another good idea is to choose an appliance that goes well and blends with the interior of your home. The most practical are all-plastic diffusers, because they do not break easily, but they are not so good looking. There are also appliances with ceramic, glass or wooden upper covers. To make it even more motivating for you to use the diffuser, choose an aesthetic looking one that complements the room in which you will place it.
Aromas on the road
If you like the idea of natural scents in the car, then choose a different model of a diffuser that you can plug in via a USB cable and that can fit into the cup compartment of your car. If you don’t have a USB outlet, there are also diffuser models that can be plugged into the car lighter, but you won’t be able to use them at home or in the office.
My choice of diffuser
I have diffusers in every room, I don’t always use them but whenever I want, they’re available. Having acquired at least a dozen different types in a few years, it turned out that I use this appliance the most in the bedroom. I switch on the 500-milliliter model to work without essential oils to increase the humidity in the air before going to bed. I also put oils into a smaller, portable diffuser and switch on to diffuse at intervals.

The richest variety of diffusers can be found on Amazon, of course, but I also was able to select beautiful models at TJ Maxx stores at excellent discount.
